7 things God needs you to remember when you’ve hit your breaking point
When it feels like life is about to break you, remember how God sees things.
“I cannot take this anymore!”
The breaking point. We have all been there. The lonely and heartbreaking place filled with deep questions of what the future holds and doubts of whether you can face another day without succumbing to the overwhelming and overbearing stress of it all.
In life, we will face trials and challenges that put our faith to the test. These tests are inevitable, but the degree of impact they can have on our well-being is optional. We get to decide how we react in the face of our breaking point.
When you feel like you can’t go on, remember God is cheering for you today and everyday. He wants you to face your breaking point knowing these seven vital things.
1. Everything can and will change
Life is unpredictable. We cannot foresee the future. The only thing we can rely on is that everything can and will change.
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9
2. You’ve overcome challenges before
Remind yourself that God would never allow you to face a trial you could not overcome. He alone knows your unimaginable strength. Every hardship in your life, big or small, is a test God will put you through to develop your faith, perseverance and strength. You have faced trials in your life before. Remind yourself how much stronger you are because you have overcome hardships.
3. It’s a learning experience
Why do bad things happen to good people? Because God loved us enough to send us here to suffer — to suffer from sadness, illness, death, divorce, abuse and disaster. He sent us here to experience extreme lows, so we can know the touch of pure joy.
Christ, who walked before us, suffered pains and afflictions a human mind cannot fathom or begin to comprehend. He understands every ounce of pain you have endured, will endure or are currently experiencing. He has and will remain by your side regardless of the circumstance and will fight for you and your happiness. Remain faithful and communicate with him. Pray unto him for guidance and you will find a purpose in your trials.
4. Not getting what you want can be a blessing
There will be times in your life where you will experience defeat. You will not make a team, you will be picked last, you will not land the job and the girl will break your heart. You will experience the pain of not getting what you want in this life several times over. In the face of devastation, remember God in his infinite wisdom has a master plan. He withholds things from you to prepare you for bigger and better things to come.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.” Romans 8:28
5. Being kind to yourself is the best medicine
Allow yourself to see you the way God sees you: lovable, kind, genuine and irreplaceable. Recognize your infinite worth and untarnished beauty. Embrace the things that make you unique.
6. Great things take time
In the face of adversity, remember God always has a bigger plan for you. God’s plan is perfect. His plan is almost always different than our own, but we must remember His plans are perfect and His timing is for our success.
7. There is ALWAYS something to be thankful for
In the moment you think nothing could change for the better, turn to God and offer a small prayer of gratitude for all the things that have brought you joy in your life. It may not be a long list, but share the heartfelt and intimate things you are most thankful for with God. Choose to find the positive in a negative situation and that will make all the difference.
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:21
